How Drug Trafficking Is Charged
Drug trafficking cases are typically very complicated cases that involve issues including controlled deliveries, search warrants and identification issues. Most importantly, drug trafficking has its own severe sentencing structures. Unlike PWISD, drug trafficking is charged based on the weight of the drugs possessed.
Minimum weight/dosage limits are as follows:
Marijuana – 10 pounds
Cocaine – 28 grams
Methamphetamine – 28 grams
Heroin – 4 grams
Acid – 100 doses
Ecstasy – 100 doses or 28 grams
Quaaludes – 1,000 doses
Sentencing structure is very complicated and dependent upon the amount of the drugs seized. Those punished under this statute, though, can be punished with up to 279 months in prison.
