Why Should You Hire a Local Traffic Lawyer?
For most people, having a driver’s license is not an option. Legally driving is necessary for living and working in and around the Piedmont Triad. Getting a speeding ticket when you’re going more than 15 mph over the posted speed limit, accumulating 12 points on your driving record, and several other combinations of charges within a short period could result in losing your license for up to 1 year. So, it is always worth getting an attorney for any traffic ticket to minimize the consequences to you and your driving record.
If you’ve been cited for a traffic violation in the Greensboro or High Point area, connect with our traffic lawyers at Dummit Fradin. We’ll help you understand your options and develop a strong defense against your charges.
We extend our services to drivers in the Triad area including Alamance, Guilford, and Randolph Counties. We would be happy to answer your questions and address any concerns you may have like whether you need to show up to court, whether you are likely to lose your license, or whether you need to attend traffic school.

Yes. You can pay costs and fees, restitution, and probation and parole fees online through the eCourts portal here. (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, and Discover are all accepted, although there is a small processing fee.) The eCourts portal is also where you can look up your court date or courtroom. Please note that you cannot pay bonds, bond forfeitures, child support payments, or civil judgments through this portal.
When you pay your Guilford County traffic citation with a credit or debit card, you will be assessed a processing fee. It is 2.39% of the amount charged. For example, if your cost and fee for your ticket were set at $250, then you would pay an additional ($250)*(2.39%) = $5.98, making your total $255.98.

What are the Consequences of a Speeding Ticket?
Every speeding charge is unique, with various factors influencing the outcome, such as your speed, the county where the charge originated, and your driving history.
Depending on these factors, you could face the loss of your driver’s license, a criminal record, and significant increases in your insurance premiums. Therefore, it’s crucial to consult with an experienced traffic attorney who regularly handles speeding tickets in your specific county.
Speeding Penalties
In North Carolina, exceeding the speed limit results in a 3-point penalty and the following court costs plus fines:
- 0-5 over – $10
- 6-10 over – $15
- 11-15 over – $30
- 16+ over (if posted limit UNDER 55mph) – $50
- Exceeding safe or posted speed – $25
- Driving too slow – $25
- Work Zone Speeding – $250
- Failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident – $50
- Speeding in a posted school zone – $250
These fines are for speeding over the posted speed limit but under 80mph.
Keep in mind, that going over 80mph leads to a 30-day suspension, and if reckless driving is involved, the suspension extends to 60 days. Similarly, traveling at a speed 15mph above the limit (and at least 55mph) within a city or town can result in a 30-day suspension.

In most courts, especially traffic courts, there are long lines and a lot of confusion. By having an experienced traffic attorney with you, you will have a better understanding of your rights and your options. This will, at minimum, speed up your time spent in the courtroom, lessening the time you must take away from your paying position or other important daily tasks. In many cases, your attorney can appear for you, saving you from the trip to the courthouse entirely. Your attorney can also speak with the police officer and the courtroom personnel. Often, an attorney who is experienced in the county where you are going to court, such as our Traffic Lawyers in Greensboro, can work out a plea deal on your behalf. Having such a deal could save your driver’s license from being suspended or revoked, and avoid excessive points on your license, which, in turn, will avoid enormous long-term increases in your insurance rates.
