New Winston-Salem Courthouse Address
Located next to the Forsyth County Government Center and across the street from Forsyth County Detention Center.
Campus Concept
The new courthouse will be approximately 250,000 square feet which is 2 1/2 times bigger than the courthouse they are currently located in. The building is located beside the Forsyth County Government Center and the two buildings share a common outdoor area. A parking deck is located across the street for public parking.

Jury Duty
There is a significant improvement to the waiting area for people summoned for jury duty. Currently, the space is confined and has poor air circulation. In the new building, there will be increased seating with comfortable chairs, tables, and dedicated quiet zones. Additionally, a private room will be available to accommodate nursing parents or individuals attending to medical needs.
Enhanced Security and Convenience
Security
One of the security issues with the current courthouse is that inmates share the same corridor and elevators with judges, district attorneys, and clerk staff. The new courthouse has an underground tunnel connecting the new courthouse with the Forsyth County Jail. This will allow detention officers to safely transport inmates from the jail to the courthouse’s courtrooms without the need for vehicle transportation. Previously, detention officers would use a van to transport inmates from the jail to the Hall of Justice for court proceedings. It is important to note that the tunnel will not be accessible to the public. The new courthouse will also have secure parking for judges and other elected officials.
Clerk of Court
The majority of the Clerk of Court’s office duties will be conveniently located on the first floor, ensuring visitors have access to these services without the need for an elevator or to navigate multiple areas of the building.
