The Guardian Your Family Deserves
Kathryn is a domestic attorney in Greensboro, North Carolina. She has experience handling domestic matters along with general civil and real estate matters.
Kathryn earned her B.A. at University at Buffalo, SUNY while also earning a minor in Chinese Language and Culture. Kathryn studied abroad in Beijing, China and Singapore earning both a certificate in Chinese Language (Mandarin) and a certificate in International marketing. Before going to law school, Kathryn worked in logistics and banking in Buffalo, NY. At Elon Law, Kathryn was the Symposium Editor for the Elon Law Review and was published in Volume 12 of the Elon Law Review Journal. Kathryn graduated in the Top Ten of her class while also volunteering time to different clinics run by the law school.
As a child, Kathryn loved the idea of being a vocal advocate for those less fortunate than herself. She couldn’t handle the thought of being a doctor, but she still wanted to help others. Never having been around attorneys, law school was not her first choice. However, she soon noticed when others had a hard time speaking for themselves, either they were too nervous or they didn’t have their own platform, she wanted to give them a voice. Becoming their advocate empowered her to speak for them, to give a voice to their stories.
One of the things Kathryn enjoys the most about her law career has been finding the myriad of different ways to solve client’s problems within the system that we have. Civil and criminal courts are very different. Civil court may take a long time to get through but it the attorney and the client many options to attack their issues and resolve their problems. From mediation to litigation, there is a solution and resolution for everything.
“When everything else is chaotic in your life, I am your advocate and your voice of reason.”
Years ago, Kathryn did not want to be a litigator at all. She wanted to be an Environmental Lawyer, similar to Erin Brockovich. However, when her first opportunity to litigate came and she found the experience to be astounding. She argued a Motion to Dismiss in Superior Court. Based on her argument, the case was dismissed. The losing party appealed to the Court of Appeals, where an old Professor of hers happened to defend her case. The dismissal stood. Her Former Professor, now Lead Attorney on the case, contacted her to tell her what a great argument she had crafted. That was all it took. Kathryn had fallen in love with the research, the arguments, and the thrill of the win. From that moment on, she was a devoted litigator.
“The practice of Law is a privilege. It’s a constant balance between zealously advocating for your clients, educating myself and others, as well as working to improve the system of laws we must live and work within.”
Kathryn has been able to see firsthand both the good and the bad of Domestic Law within her family. She has had adoptions and divorces throughout her family which has drawn her to the practice. She is also a huge animal lover with two fur-babies. When she’s not travelling to see her large extended family, she is looking for new places to visit and different cultures to explore. She loves to read and can usually be found with a good historical fiction or suspense novel.
